Holy cow....best biscuits & gravy AND corned beef hash !! Super old school family diner with family serving !!!! Wish er had one like this where we lWe love grammas !!!!! We'll so be back !!
I LOVE diners, and I have been wanting to go to Grammas Corner Restaurant for a while. So when I had an appointment in SE Portland last Friday, I told my BF we should go there for breakfast. He was totally on board since he had gone a few months ago, and loved the chicken fried steak he got. It definitely has a diner feel to it, with lace curtains and chotchkies, and it's on the smaller side There were only two tables available when we got there, but I bet this place is packed on the weekends, so come early. I got the Biscuits and Gravy, with scrambled eggs and bacon, and the BF got a Cheeseburger with Bacon. The Biscuits and Gravy were great! I haven't had B&G in a while, and these did not disappoint. Eggs were also cooked perfectly and the bacon was crispy and not greasy at all. I ate every bite, and was a happy, stuffed camper. BF also loved his cheeseburger, and said it is one of the best burgers he's had in Portland - made his top 10 list. Service was good, and my coffee was refilled on a regular basis, so no complaints there. Overall, a really good breakfast that was worth the drive. Can't wait to go back!
Just had a great breakfast here. Fast friendly service and excellent food. You can tell they take pride in pleasing their customers and providing them with a good experience. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy, I had the early bird waffle special. We both really enjoyed our meals. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
Well, we drove by this little gem and had to try. The best gravy for a biscuit or the delicious country fried steak! Price were reasonable, the hospitality was awesome, sweetest people! For the food, pancakes are fluffy and huge, the Monte Cristo was good and for came hot and prepared to how we ordered. Made sure stop by, plus the view of the water across the street is a nice add to a relaxing morning out for breakfast. Want to go back and try dinner. Heard the pot roast is good
My go-to for a great breakfast. The staff is consistently amazing. Get the shrimp omelet!
Just left picking up a order to go for a friend. For $9.25 it was one egg, hash browns and gravy. ! You would think this was New York!! Way over priced. Go to Mcqueens for half the price!
Great service with friendly staff. Generous portions. Blueberry pancakes topped with strawberries and whipped cream!Fluffy and yummy.
Good food. Nice people. Went right in, sat down and enjoyed a fresh corn beef hash, two eggs perfectly over easy, and more hash browns. I liked the experience here. I'll be back.
Went here for breakfast specifically to try their corned beef hash. It was fresh made and very good. Meat and veggies (green pepper, onion and potatoes) were in proper proportions and chunky rather than all ground up together. I ordered it with biscuits and gravy that was best I've ever had. Except for the well worn carpet the place was clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely be back to try more items on their menu.
Tried this joint on a whim and glad we did. Staff is super nice and atmosphere relaxing. We sat outside and caught glimpses of river view in between bites. It was Sunday around 11am and place had a comfy flow of customers but easily had spots open for parties of 2. Order up: -chicken fried steak w biscuits and gravy -tuna melt on rye w homemade potato salad Verdict: Food came out fast and piping hot. Oooh weeee! The homemade potato salad was def a special treat and tuna was warm and melty. Lol...and we cleaned the chicken plate. Would like to come back and try some diff choices. They have breakfast/lunch all day I think and din choices for later. Gotta go work off this brunch now!
I ate here for the first time on a Sunday Morning. The wait was very short. I ordered biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs with a side hash browns. It was a good with that home made flavor. It was quiet enough to have a conversion without missing word. This is a nice neighborhood restaurant.
I've walked by this place a million times but haven't been tempted to try it, figuring it's standard greasy spoon fare. It might be, but nothing comes in pools of oil, and I didn't walk away with that greasy, stuffed feeling, so it's a win. I ordered the corned beef hash, expecting the diner version. This one came as hash browns with quality, real corned beef mixed in. It was very tasty. If I knew they just used regular hash browns, I wouldn't have gotten hash browns as my side. It's a little odd having a plate delivered with two identical mounds of hash browns, one with corned beef and one naked. A couple of poached eggs sealed the deal. Coffee is good, service is fast, friendly, and available. Pricing is very reasonable, and specials round out a basic menu. Portions are large; everyone I saw, even big, burly guys, got to-go containers. Not me. I left my second pile of hash browns.
Is this really Gramma's Corner? The name is a tall order to live up to. I don't know about you, but my grandmother took her southern cooking seriously. The reviews so far howl about the amazing gravy. My grandmother could make gravy like no one's business. Service was as sweet as cherry pie, sweeter even. The tiny restaurant is packed for breakfast, always a good sign, and while waiting a regular patron raved about the gravy. I guess we are ordering the gravy. My companion was all over the Corned Beef Hash and added Biscuits with Gravy. I decided on a Monte Cristo because that was one my grandmother did best. Prices run about $8.00 - $12:00. Portions are large. So, the gravy. YES! This is not your garden variety boring sausage gravy. This gravy is complex with rich flavors. It has a bacon base and a earthy herbed almost chicken flavor. The Corned Beef Hash was defined with still crisp chopped peppers and onions. There was not a ounce of grease on either plate. The Monte Cristo had real off - the bone ham and tender turkey. It was so big I could only eat half, and I am a self promcaimed pig when it comes to grandmas home cooking. This IS Gramma's Corner. There is no doubt in my mind Gramma's is one of the best breakfasts for miles around, perfect as is.
I haven't had a griddle cake that delicious in a long, long while. Really good cooking here.
I don't know who is giving this place good reviews. My boyfriend and I went last weekend and it was absolutely terrible. It was busy, but I wouldn't say slammed. We waited about 5 - 10 minutes for a table, which isn't bad at all, but that's where things took a turn for the worse. Now I don't mind a dive, but this place was really dirty, with a mild mildew smell. The moment we sat down, at least 3 different wait staff were on top of us, asking us what we wanted to drink. My boyfriend asked 3 times for a drink menu, before the 3rd person finally said, "well we don't really have one, but I can tell you that we have RC products." Which is when we finally figure out that they don't have a liquor license at all. Now I don't exactly mind not having a drink with brunch, but it's always a bit of a bummer. Still, I had read the review online and they'd all been good, so I thought, well maybe the food will be really good. I ordered and Ice Tea. They never refilled it. Despite being up our asses to order drinks, they took a good 15 minutes to come back and take our order. My boyfriend chose the pork chops and eggs, while I went with the Monte Cristo sandwich. And then we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. After about 40 minutes we realized that one order at a time was coming out of that kitchen. It was like my mom was back there making breakfasts individually for each table on a 4 top burner, only I think she'd have been faster and the food would have been better. After about 50 minutes and our food nowhere in sight, my boyfriend was ready to walk out. I wish I'd let him, but then the people who have been seated right after us got their food. At this point I thought our food MUST be next, and we were ravenous, so I convinced him to wait another 5 minutes. Closer to 10 minutes later, my food finally came out. My boyfriend had been under the impression that his pork chops were going to be breaded and fried. They came out pan seared and as tough as leather. He didn't eat them. I fared slightly better with my Monte Cristo sandwich. It was gigantic and pretty tasty, but very difficult to eat. The main reason for this is because it had not been cut into the club sandwich quarters that the sandwich is traditional presented in. In fact it was not even cut in half. I thought to myself, what do they want me to do, pick this whole thing up and eat it? I asked the waitress and she, "They only let cut the lunch version of the sandwich." Ok, I don'y know who the heck "they" is but that's ridiculous. The sandwich was served with a side of hash browns that were ok and some eggs. I has asked for over easy, but these were substantially closer to over hard and obviously cooked at way to high a temperature. I gave them to my boyfriend to eat, as he wasn't going to touch those pork chops. At some point the manager came over and sort of apologized, but mostly had this very long winded list of excuses as to why things took so long. This is actually a huge pet peeve of mine. I'm sorry all of your cooks called in, and I'm sorry one of your grills is down, but none of that is my problem. I am not your friend or your pal or whatever. I am your customer. I paid you good money to provide me with a service. The last thing I want to hear is a long sob story about how it's not your fault that your food and your service were awful. Now if you want to comp us one of our meals, or our drinks as an apology for dropping the ball, that is just fine, but if all you have for me is a sad sack story, then you can stick your sorrys in a sack. So 90 minutes after arriving at Grandma's house of regret, we paid for our food and, against my better judgment, left a tip, but we will not be returning and I'd advise you steer clear of this place as well. This was hands down the worst restaurant experience I've had in years.

Holy mother of God!!! This has to be the best breakfast I've ever had in my entire life! From homemade gravy that is absolutely to die for to fantastic service. This place is a must. The chicken fried steak was superb and the pork chops cooked to perfection. We will be back the next time we visit Oregon for more!
